A double shooting early yesterday in Suitland left one man dead, marking the sixth homicide in Prince George’s County in the first five days of September.

The shooting occurred in the 4600 block of Chelsea Way at about 1 a.m., said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a spokesman for Prince George’s County Police.

Kenneth Stanford, 22, of the 4700 block of Hudson Avenue had been shot several times. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Also shot was a 28-year-old man, who was hospitalized.

The killing brings the number of homicides this year in Prince George’s County to 119, up from 96 at this time last year.

The county has experienced a spate of violence since Thursday, when Charmaine Edwards, 21, of Southwest was found fatally shot in her car on Keystone Manor Drive in Morningside.

Four persons were fatally shot in the county Friday. Three of those killings occurred in the daylight hours.

• Dorsey Tyler, 42, who lived on Sheriff Road, was killed at about 3:10 p.m. in the 1500 block of Village Green Drive.

• Abdul Gregory Leftwich, 18, was killed at about 4:50 p.m. in the 1700 block of Kenilworth Avenue where he lived.

• John Douglas Lewis Jr., 27, of the 1200 block of Nalley Road was killed at about 5:10 p.m. in the 1800 block of Ray Leonard Road.

• Angelo Lorenzo Braddy, 21, was killed at about 10 p.m. in the 1500 block of Ray Road in the Hyattsville area.

Cpl. Copeland said no arrests have been made in those cases, but James Esau Davis, with no fixed address, has been identified as a suspect in connection with Mr. Leftwich’s death and a warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for his arrest.

“As of right now, there’s nothing indicating that [the cases] are related, but that’s just preliminary. The investigations are ongoing.” Cpl. Copeland said.

Also over the Labor Day weekend, Anne Arundel County police charged Brandon Iam Kellam, 16, with second-degree murder after the stabbing death of a 17-year-old boy outside a Glen Burnie mall Saturday night.

Police said Kevin Michael Weingart of Glen Burnie and a group of friends became involved in an altercation with another group in the parking lot of Marley Station Mall.

As the dispute escalated, the teenager was stabbed in the torso. He was flown by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.

In the District, Metropolitan Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened at about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 3700 block of Hayes Street Northeast.

Police said they found Derrick Jones, 22, of the 3700 block of Cassell Place Northeast with gunshot wounds to his head and body. Police said they don’t have any suspects or a motive in the case and that they are searching for witnesses.

Through Friday, the District had recorded 128 homicides, compared with 129 at the same time last year.
