ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. (AP) - Authorities are searching for at least one large cat that has reportedly been roaming around Andrews Air Force Base.

Captain Herb McConnell, a base spokesman, says two residents reported seeing the animal this morning. He says one resident described seeing a brown, spotted cat while another person said the cat was black. It’s not clear if they saw the same animal.

Officials say the cat was seen roaming around a commissary and housing area on the base. Local police and animal control officers are assisting in the search.

Donna Wilson, with the Prince George’s County Department of Environmental Resources, says authorities haven’t seen any sign of the animal, but are taking precautions.

She says parents at three schools in the area have been asked to pick up students who normally walk home. Those who travel by bus were dismissed early.
