Two students were wounded in a shooting this morning at Roosevelt High School in Northwest.

A 19-year-old male student was shot in the back about 9:15 a.m. and was taken to a hospital in serious condition, said Roxanne Evans, a spokeswoman for the D.C. public school system.

The second student — an 18-year-old male — was grazed by a bullet, authorities said.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot in front of the high school in the 4300 block of Iowa Avenue Northwest, police said.

Students at Roosevelt and at MacFarland Middle School, which are connected, are being sheltered in place for the day at the schools.

Grief counselors are being brought into the schools.

Police say they are searching for a silver Nissan with three or four persons that was seen leaving the area. Police aren’t sure if this was a drive-by shooting or if it involved a fight in the parking lot.
