Last night at Verizon Center:

Ovechkin watch

Rookie Alex Ovechkin assisted on a first period goal to give him points in 11 straight games, extending his personal record.

By the numbers

20Goals or more this season for Ovechkin, Dainius Zubrus and Chris Clark. In their most recent season, no Caps scored 20 in 2003-04.

Play of the game

Two minutes, 15 seconds into the second period, Carolina trailed 1-0 and took a penalty but quickly reversed the disadvantage by scoring two shorthanded goals — only the second time in franchise history the team had scored two short-handers on the same infraction.
