THE WASHINGTON TIMES

A trip to Illinois in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and a meeting with Notre Dame in the BB&T; Classic at Verizon Center highlight Maryland’s 2006-07 men’s basketball schedule, which was released yesterday by the conference.

The Terrapins also will play in the 2K Sports Classic, which could include up to two games against Michigan State, St. John’s or Texas at Madison Square Garden Nov. 16-17.

The Terps will face Notre Dame in the BB&T; Classic on Dec. 3. Another game in the BB&T; Classic is George Washington-Virginia Tech. The Nov. 28 visit to Illinois was announced earlier this year.

In its nine nonconference games other than Illinois, Notre Dame and the 2K Sports Classic, Maryland will meet two teams (Winthrop and Iona) that finished in the top 100 of the RPI last year.

The Terps will play four of five ACC games on the road in a stretch that begins Jan. 16. They also play two games against both Duke and N.C. State in the final seven games, and face a finishing stretch of home games with North Carolina and N.C. State sandwiched around a trip to Duke.
