Last night at Verizon Center:

Antawn Jamison and his wife, Ione, became the happy parents of a baby boy on Thursday evening: Antwan Cortez Jamison.

Note the spelling on Antawn’s son’s name, which is different from his own. They both share the same name and little Antwan is a Jr.

Jamison constantly is teased about the spelling of his name and in many opposing arenas, his name is pronounced phonetically. Turns out Jamison and Ione didn’t want their son to go through the same thing Jamison has gone through.

“Nah, we decided we didn’t want him to go through life having to answer that question,” Antawn said.

Jamison said his parents meant to spell his name “Antwan,” but the hospital spelled it incorrectly and the wrong spelling stuck.

“The hospital made a mistake on the birth certificate, and they just left it alone,” Jamison said. “They just never dealt with it.”

“Anything can happen. If we’re not in first place in a month from now, what are we going to do, cry about it? No, we’re just going to keep working and working hard.”

— Wizards coach Eddie Jordan on the team taking sole control of first place in the division. This is the first time the team has been in first place in any division this late in the season since they won the Atlantic Division in 1978-79.

0 Points scored in the second half by Orlando’s Hedo Turkoglu. He scored 20 in the first half but was 0-for-5 from the field in the second.
