First-time home buyers struggling to find a way to move from renting to ownership often look to condominiums as a home style that can be attractive yet affordable.

Empty nesters interested in downsizing also find condominiums desirable. Both types of buyers often want to live in a community with recreational amenities, too.

Finding a home requiring little maintenance and one surrounded by community amenities can be a dream come true, but finding one where base prices begin at less than $200,000 is rare in the Washington area.

Comstock Homebuilding Cos. Inc. has converted an apartment complex in Leesburg to condominiums with base prices beginning at $179,900.

At the Commons at Bellemeade off Va. Route 7 in Leesburg, the community includes a clubhouse, a swimming pool, a fitness center, racquetball courts and tennis courts. Nearby are parks, shopping and the charm of historic downtown Leesburg.

The buildings at the Commons at Bellemeade are constructed of brick and siding, and Comstock has updated the interior of each home with new baths, new cabinets, new counters, new flooring, new light fixtures and new appliances.

The one-bedroom, one-bath homes range from 486 to 748 square feet, with two-bedroom, two bath homes including 904 to 1,010 finished square feet. The homes are base-priced from $179,900 to the low $300,000s, with monthly condominium fees of $130 to $275.

The smallest home, with 486 square feet, has an open living and dining room, a separate laundry room, an updated kitchen, and a bedroom with a walk-in closet and full bath with a shower. A sliding glass door opens off the living room to a patio or balcony.

The largest of the one-bedroom homes, with 748 square feet, includes a corner kitchen with a breakfast bar, a separate dining room, and a living room with a fireplace and a sliding glass door to a patio or balcony, which includes a storage closet. The bedroom has a glass door to the patio or balcony. Adjacent to the bedroom is a large bath with a linen closet, a wall closet and a laundry room.

One of the two-bedroom, two-bath homes, with 904 square feet, includes an entrance into the living room, which has a fireplace at one end. The dining area next to the kitchen has three windows and a glass door to the patio or balcony, which includes a storage closet. One bedroom has a sliding glass door to the balcony or patio, a wall closet, a private full bath and a laundry room. The second bedroom has a walk-in closet and access to a full bath, which is also accessible from the hall.

A two-bedroom, two-bath home, the largest with 1,010 square feet, includes a patio or balcony accessible from the master bedroom and the living and dining area. This home also has a storage unit off the patio. A foyer with a closet leads into the living and dining area, which has a fireplace and an entrance to the kitchen. Nearby is a laundry room. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a private full bath. The second bedroom has a wall closet and a private entrance to a full bath that is also accessible from the hall for guests.
