Maryland’s historic Eastern Shore towns of Easton, Oxford and St. Michaels are about to be joined by a new village modeled on their charms.

Elm Street Development, a Washington- and Baltimore-area planning and development company in business for almost three decades, was inspired by these traditional towns in the construction of Easton Village, a single-family-home community of 250 homes on the north shore of the Tred Avon River near Easton.

Easton Village will be built around a series of parks. More than 50 acres of the community are set aside as a nature preserve. Wetland protections have been put in place, and many of the trees, including some that are more than 400 years old, have been preserved.

The development concept for Easton Village is that each neighborhood street will represent shared space for the residents, with front gardens and front porches facing the tree-lined street and service lanes providing access to rear garages.

No home will be more than one block from park land.

Planned community amenities include a marina with private boat slips, a kayak launch and crabbing pier, a 6-acre park with a pavilion, a village green and more than 3 miles of walking trails and nature paths.

A pedestrian bridge over the Tred Avon River is planned to connect Easton Village to the town of Easton as part of the Rails-to-Trails conservancy program (www.railstrails.org).

Three builders will be building homes in Easton Village, including ILEX Construction and Development Inc., U.S. Home Corp. and K&P; Builders Inc., with base prices anticipated to range from the low $600,000s to more than $1,000,000.

K&P; is building four types of homes at Easton Village, with 2,800 to 4,025 finished square feet and base prices from $749,900 to $995,900.

The homes have Hardiplank siding, traditional detailing, brick fronts, a front porch, a two-car garage and professional landscaping.

Inside, the homes have three or four bedrooms, two or three full baths, a powder room, oak flooring in the first-floor rooms and the upper hall, oak stairs, 9- and 10-foot ceilings, crown and chair-rail moldings and wainscoting.

Standard features include a fireplace with a marble surround, high-tech wiring, an elevator access rough-in so one can be easily added, a security system, gas heat, ceramic tile flooring and a master bath with a tub and separate shower.

Buyers can customize the kitchen by choosing Corian or granite counters and ceramic tile or hardwood flooring to blend with the 42-inch cherry wood cabinets and stainless steel appliances.

The Village A model on Lot 159, which includes some optional features such as a full brick exterior, is priced from $995,900.

This home has a front porch leading into the foyer, which has a curving central staircase. The main level has a formal living room with a box bay window, a study with an optional fireplace, a wine room off the living room and a large formal dining room with windows on two sides and an optional window seat.

A butler’s pantry and powder room flank the entrance to the center-island kitchen, which has a walk-in pantry and a wall of windows.

Nearby are a large family room with a door to the side porch and a fireplace, a separate breakfast room with glass doors to a rear terrace, and a mudroom leading to the garage.

Upstairs, the master suite includes a private balcony, a dressing room with three closets, a walk-in closet, a tub, a shower with a seat and another closet. Buyers can add a bonus room over the garage for additional living space.

The upper level also includes a laundry room, a second bedroom with a private full bath and two more bedrooms, which share the hall bath.
