Last night at MCI Center

Seen and heard

So just how little does a player’s ability to dunk a basketball have with his ability to play at the NBA level?

Well, if you use this year’s winner of the slam dunk contest as a litmus test, not much.

Rookie Nate Robinson, who won the contest a week ago yesterday at All-Star Weekend despite missing what seemed like 300 attempts, was placed on the inactive list to make room for Steve Francis, who was acquired by New York for Penny Hardaway at the trade deadline earlier in the week.

Word is that Larry Brown is down on the little (listed at 5-foot-9) guy.

Quotable

“Hey Stevie, where are you going next?”

— A fan hollered at former Maryland standout Steve Francis with the Wizards up 25 points in the third quarter. …

“To the bank.”

— Responded Francis, who is earning $13.7 million this season.

Key number

1 Win Wizards coach Eddie Jordan needs to reach 100 with the franchise. He is 99-119.
