Today: Annual ceremony to celebrate the birthdays of Gens. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, at the Lee-Jackson Monument in Baltimore, at Art Museum and Wyman Park drives. The event includes Confederate and Federal troop re-enactors as well as period music. Refreshments for participants and spectators after the ceremony. Information: 410/296-9235.


Thursday: The Prince William County Historic Preservation Division hosts the first in a series of lectures on local history and preservation with “An Evening With the General,” featuring an actor portraying Gen. Robert E. Lee. The free lecture begins at 7 p.m. at the Old Manassas Courthouse, 9248 Lee Ave., Manassas. Seating is limited, and reservations are recommended at 703/792-5546.

Jan. 28: Civil War Ball at Gadsby’s Tavern Ballroom, Alexandria, 8 to 11 p.m. Live music, dance instruction, period desserts. Period attire, civilian or military, encouraged. Dance class at Gadsby’s Tavern from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. Class costs $12. Ball $30 in advance, $40 at door. Reservations for both recommended.
