Celtics turnovers, resulting in 22 points for the Wizards.

Key to the game

Boston’s Paul Pierce missed two of three free throws in the final 30 seconds. The All-Star came into the game shooting 81 percent from the line and is an 80-percent shooter for his career.

Seen and heard

Wizards swingman Jared Jeffries, who had started all 30 games this season, did not play because of a scratched left eye. He suffered the injury in the third quarter Friday against New York.

Jeffries dressed before the game and was prepared to play. However, the litmus test was whether he could get his contact lens in without any pain, which he couldn’t.

“They tell me that eyes can heal pretty fast, but I’ve still got a lot of pain in it,” Jeffries said following Friday’s game.

Jeffries said he might have given it a go if he had some goggles, but alas. …

“We don’t have any in the building,” he said.
