On Turkish television Sunday, the country’s foreign minister suggested Turkey might send troops to Iraq in the coming months or years if the Iraqi government requests it.

“Any kind of division could cause unimaginable chaos. The Middle East cannot bear another big incident,” Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said. Asked about Turkish troops for Iraq, Mr. Gul said “the issue can be discussed in the future if the Iraqi government demands or if there is a need to do so,” according to the major Turkish daily Zaman.
