STERLING, Va. (AP) — Authorities in Loudoun County are investigating a series of drive-by shootings that left one man hospitalized.

Sheriff’s spokesman Kraig Troxell said the shootings occurred overnight in the Sterling area. In one case, a man was hit by a bullet about 1 a.m. at his home on Coventry Square. He was flown to the hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries.

Sheriff Steve Simpson told WRC TV (Channel 4) that about 50 rounds of ammunition were fired from a variety of firearms, striking at least seven homes in the area.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation indicates the shootings could be gang-related.
