So my boss vanished the other day. Poof. Gone. On vacation.

I suppose I should briefly mention that it is an intern’s proud and solemn duty, for the first four to six weeks, not to know a single blessed thing that is going on. The internal workings of the office are supposed to appear Greek to us (Russian if we know Greek, and Swahili if we know Greek AND Russian), and we should have a learning curve similar to that of studying the writings of Japanese dyslexics.

(The entire paragraph above was completely facetious.)

But seriously, it’s a very jarring experience when your boss disappears. Especially when you’ve got just about two weeks in the newsroom under your belt, and are still a little green.
