Condominium buyers usually are looking for a convenient location, a low-maintenance lifestyle and, if they can find it, a development with recreational amenities thrown into the package.

At the Ridgeleigh at Van Dorn Metro, at 5901 Coverdale Way in Alexandria, buyers can drive to Old Town Alexandria and into Washington with quick access to Interstates 95 and 395 and the Capital Beltway.

Residents also can leave their cars behind and hop on a neighborhood shuttle that provides direct service to the Van Dorn Metro station.

Within the Ridgeleigh community are two clubhouses. The north clubhouse includes a sports lounge with a plasma television and a pool table, plus entertainment space, a resort-style outdoor swimming pool, a business center with Internet access and a fax/copier, plus a reading room. The south clubhouse features a lap pool, locker rooms, and a new fitness center that is open 24 hours a day.

The Ridgeleigh also has a basketball court, a picnic area with grills, a tot lot and a carwash area with hoses and vacuums.

Five floor plans are available in this conversion project, each with new kitchen and bath cabinets, granite counters in the kitchen and bath, stainless steel appliances, ceramic tile flooring in the kitchen and bath, a new designer lighting package, new carpet with new padding and two-tone interior paint.

Each home has a full-size washer and dryer, crown and chair-rail moldings in the living areas, pre-wiring for cable and phone lines, large walk-in closets, miniblinds on the windows, and a patio or balcony. Some homes also have a vaulted ceiling and a fireplace.

The homes range from 589 square feet to 1,081 square feet, with base prices from $274,990 to $444,990. A detached garage can be purchased for an additional $20,000. Two of the models are available with attached garages for an additional $30,000.

Condominium fees range from $175 to $195 for the one-bedroom homes, and from $255 to $265 for the two-bedroom homes. The condo fee includes a master insurance policy, trash removal, snow removal, common area maintenance, the use of the clubhouses, fitness center, business center, two swimming pools, sports lounge and Metro shuttle bus service.

The Ryan model, with 886 square feet, is base-priced from $314,990. This home has a foyer entrance to the living room, which has an optional fireplace.

Adjacent to the living room are a dining room, a study and the kitchen, which has an entrance to the laundry room. The bedroom suite includes a separate sitting room, a walk-in closet and a full bath with a second entrance to the living areas.

The Wesley model, with 1,081 square feet, is base-priced from $414,990. This home has a foyer entrance with a closet and an open living and dining room with as sliding glass door to a deck. The kitchen includes a walk-in pantry and an adjacent laundry room.

The master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a private full bath. The second bedroom, almost equal in size to the master bedroom, has a walk-in closet and an adjacent full bath. Buyers can add a gas fireplace in the living room and a garage.
