Yesterday at Verizon Center:

Key player

Caps goalie Olie Kolzig won his second in a row and first this season over Pittsburgh. He kept Washington in the game and finished with 22 saves.

Play of the game

While killing a penalty in the first period, Caps defender Ivan Majesky lofted a high dump into the Pittsburgh zone to relieve pressure. The puck bounced three times, took a sharp turn to the right on the third and eluded goalie Sebastien Caron for a short-handed goal.

By the numbers

7 Games in a row in which Caps rookie left wing Alex Ovechkin has scored, extending his own club record streak.
