MARYLAND

June 3-10: Sale of used books, CDs, vinyl records and tapes will be held at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds will fund programs at the museum’s Education Department. The museum is at 48 E. Patrick St. For more information, call 301/695-1864.

June 14: In celebration of Flag Day, the Maryland Room of the C. Burr Artz Public Library and National Museum of Civil War Medicine offer a program titled “Flags: Your Hidden Heritage.” Robert Hartman, a vexillologist, will introduce various flags of the United States. Call 301/695-1864.

Through Oct. 14: “The Civil War in Maryland: Rare Photographs From the Collection of the Maryland Historical Society and Its Members,” the largest collection of Civil War Maryland photographs ever displayed. VIRGINIA

Tuesday: Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War sponsors “Historic Decoration/Memorial Day 1872 Re-enactment” at Arlington National Cemetery beginning at 5 p.m. Decoration Day, later retitled Memorial Day, has come to be regarded as one of the most sacred of commemorative holidays. June 3: Soldier-led walking tour at Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site. This free tour will be conducted by guides in period uniforms and will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Walking shoes are recommended. Fort Ward is at 4301 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria. Call 703/838-4848 for more information.

June 9: The series “History at Sunset” will feature the program titled “Under the Guns: The Bombardment and Looting of Fredericksburg” with the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park historian John Hennessy.
