Virginia stars Mike Culver, Kyle Dixon and Matt Ward were named first-team All-Americans yesterday for their roles in helping the Cavaliers reach the final four with a perfect record.

Attackman Joe Walters and midfielder Bill McGlone, both Maryland seniors, were also on the first team.

The rest of the first team included attackmen Sean Morris (Massachusetts) and Chris Unterstein (Hofstra), midfielders Joe Boulukos (Cornell) and Paul Rabil (Johns Hopkins), defensemen Brett Moyer (Hofstra) and Jack Reid (Massachusetts) and Princeton goalie Alex Hewit.

Local players also littered the other teams. Georgetown’s Reyn Garnett, Maryland’s Steve Whittenberg, Navy’s Jon Birsner and Billy Looney and Virginia’s Ben Rubeor, Matt Poskay and Drew Thompson were second-team picks. Georgetown’s Pete Cannon, Maryland’s Ray Megill, Navy’s Matt Russell and Virginia’s Ricky Smith and Kip Turner made the third team.

Honorable mention selections included Georgetown’s Brendan Cannon, Jerry Lambe and Dave Paolisso, Maryland’s Harry Alford, Brendan Healy and Xander Ritz and Navy’s Steve Looney and Jordan DiNola.
