An article on climate science and hurricanes in Monday’s editions overstated Chris Landsea’s criticism of a fellow scientist’s paper, published in Nature in December. Mr. Landsea, of the National Hurricane Center, questioned the methodology used by Kerry Emanuel of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, saying it led to inaccurate conclusions. Because of an editing error, the article also incorrectly identified Tropical Storm Aletta as the first storm of the Atlantic storm season, which begins tomorrow. Aletta was the first storm of the Pacific season, which began in mid-May.
