Since 1976, Franco and Piero Landini have satisfied countless customers with Tuscan-style Italian food at Landini Brothers, their dramatic stone-and-wood restaurant on King Street in Old Town Alexandria.

Now Franco Landini is offering his home near Alexandria for sale, a sun-filled home with touches of Italian flavor, a wine room with a marble wine-tasting counter, an oak bar and a resort-style swimming pool surrounded by plants, a flagstone patio and a cabana designed for entertaining a crowd.

Perhaps a flair for Italian cooking will come along with owning this attractive home.

Mr. Landini’s home at 5789 Westchester St., in a part of Fairfax County that carries an Alexandria mailing address, is on the market for $1,099,900.

This home, with more than 5,600 finished square feet, includes a flagstone walkway and mature landscaping in front, but the more exciting outdoor space is in the back. Guests can be entertained on a wide deck just off the kitchen with plenty of space for a grill.

Wood steps lead from the deck to the back yard, where a curving swimming pool is surrounded by sun decks and curving garden beds. A flagstone patio just beyond the pool includes a built-in barbecue grill.

The adjacent cabana reveals a bit of Mr. Landini’s experience with vineyards around the world, with the walls lined with wine crates and the ceiling entirely covered with wine corks set in intricate patterns. The cabana includes a professional-size refrigerator and a professional-size freezer, plus plenty of space for adding a bar or a table for serving guests.

Entertaining at the Landini home has not been restricted to summertime, with the lower level of the home designed for year-round parties. Serious wine lovers will appreciate the glass-front wine room, which has a marble floor, a marble counter for wine-tasting, cedar-lined walls and wood racks that hold thousands of bottles of wine.

Adjacent to the climate-controlled wine room is a full oak bar with seating for several guests, plenty of cabinet space and an adjacent room with a refrigerator and storage. The wet bar is open to the recreation room, which has a glass door to the backyard and swimming pool area.

The lower level of the home also includes a generously sized exercise room with mirrored walls, a laundry room, a full bath with a steam shower and a fifth bedroom with a closet along one wall and windows facing the back yard.

The main level of the home includes several areas for entertaining and a dramatic entrance for welcoming guests. The two-story foyer features a Palladian window and black marble flooring in the entrance, which leads into the open central hall. The hall, along with the rest of the main and upper levels, includes hardwood flooring.

The formal living room at the front of the home includes a picture window facing the front yard and two tall windows on the side of the home.

On the opposite side of the foyer is the formal dining room, which includes a picture window and hardwood flooring. A butler’s pantry with glass-front cabinets links the dining room with the breakfast area and kitchen.

As would be expected of a professional chef and restaurateur, the spacious kitchen includes upgraded appliances, including a six-burner gas cooktop and double-wall ovens.

The abundant maple cabinets, including some with glass fronts, match the large center island, which has additional storage drawers and cabinets underneath.

Corian covers the counters and the center island. The kitchen includes a triple window over the sink, a built-in desk in one corner and a pantry for extra storage. The wall between the kitchen and the butler’s pantry includes an Italian-style mural.

The most dramatic room on the main level, the two-story family room, features one stone wall with a gas fireplace. The rear wall is almost entirely glass, with a curving half-moon window placed above four additional windows. At the side of the room is a glass door to the deck plus two tall windows with transom windows above.

The main level also includes a library with a glass door, built-in oak bookcases set between columns, recessed lighting and a chandelier. Three tall windows add light to this room. A full bath is adjacent to the library, making it easier to convert the library to a guest bedroom, if desired.

The central wood staircase leads to the open upper-level gallery that overlooks the family room. Two steps lead down from the gallery into the master suite, which is privately placed on the opposite end of the home from the other bedrooms.

The master bedroom has five tall windows, a ceiling fan, hardwood flooring and a dramatic bath with ceramic tile flooring. The bath includes a corner tub, two skylights, a glass-enclosed shower and a dual-sink vanity facing a mirror with dramatic wall sconces set into the mirror.

Adjacent to the bath is a walk-in closet that has been completely organized with shelving, varied heights of closet rods and places for shoes and accessories. Nearby is a linen closet.

The second bedroom includes a ceiling fan, hardwood flooring, a closet along one wall and a private full bath. This room also has a pull-down staircase to the attic. Extra storage space also is available in the two-car garage off the kitchen.

The third and fourth bedrooms each have a ceiling fan, two tall windows, a wall of closet space and hardwood flooring. They share a hall bath.

Whether the swimming pool and cabana or the wine room and wet bar hold the most appeal is debatable, but visitors to this home are likely to agree that even if they don’t buy this home themselves, they would like to know the person who does so they can visit often and enjoy its many amenities.
