Last night at Smith Center:

It was the Colonials’ first regular-season game at Smith Center since a dramatic 86-85 overtime win against Charlotte in the 2005-06 finale. There was an overstuffed student section that day, and GW appears to have continued the momentum — there was another large and boisterous contingent of students last night. A new addition was a large inflatable archway with a GW logo for the players to enter through. There was a near-catastrophe when the archway started losing air and falling with about 12 minutes until tipoff. But a quick infusion of air fixed the problem before the team was ready to come out, much to the delight of the crowd.

4:45Elapsed before Dartmouth attempted a shot inside the 3-point arc. The Big Green opened the game with three turnovers and four shots from beyond the arc. Dartmouth made only one of them and was behind 15-3 before Dan Biber made a short floater in the lane.

After Carl Elliot missed a 15-foot jump shot from the left wing, Dokun Akingbade tipped the rebound back to Elliot, who darted into the lane and turned the possession into a 3-point play. He made an acrobatic layup while absorbing a foul and converted the free throw.
