Last night at Verizon Center:

SEEN AND HEARD

The Thrashers were without Niclas Havelid, their top defenseman. He has been granted a personal leave of absence to be with his critically ill mother in Sweden. The team told Havelid to stay as long as he feels necessary.

BY THE NUMBERS

8Combined points for Richard Zednik and Dainius Zubrus in their last two games. Zubrus had two goals last night and Zednik assisted on the first. Against the Flames, both players had two goals while Zednik also had an assist.

OVECHKIN WATCH

After a slow start, Alex Ovechkin — last season’s Rookie of the Year — is gaining on the league leaders. He had another two points last night, both assists, to give him 10 points in his last seven games and 14 on the season.
