Google is amazing: its mobile version of Gmail, the Google e-mail service, is adaptable to just about any portable phone I’ve used, and the results are amazing. Using a BlackBerry Pearl, mentioned in the column recently and still under review, I not only was able to retrieve e-mail with ease, but the Pearl let me read a Word file — albeit one in plain text — without hassle. It’s not the way I’d want to edit a James Joyce novel, but in a pinch, it’s not bad.
