ANNAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Robert Ehrlich has formally extended his public congratulations to Governor-elect Martin O’Malley.

Speaking this morning outside the Governor’s Mansion, Mr. Ehrlich said he is looking forward to a smooth transition and says his chief of staff Chip DiPaula will lead the transition effort.

Mr. Ehrlich thanked the people of Maryland and thanked his supporters for standing by him during his 20 years in elective office. He also thanked his running mate, cabinet secretary Kristen Cox.

And Mr. Ehrlich said the next administration would inherit a state in “very, very good shape.”
