In the next few months, the U.S. Department of Transportation will award one U.S. airline a new nonstop route to Beijing. The route is a coveted one by airlines because of its limited nature and its ability to get a small piece of the ever-increasing Asian market. United is hoping to provide nonstop service to Beijing from its Washington-Dulles hub, which would be the first-ever link between the two capitals.

Other airlines hoping to begin service to China include American Airlines from Dallas, Continental Airlines from Newark, and Northwest Airlines from Detroit.
