THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Eight players cut by the Washington Redskins on Saturday were signed to the team’s practice squad yesterday.

Rookies on the squad are receiver Mike Espy, defensive back John Eubanks, offensive tackle Chris Pino and defensive linemen Vaka Manupuna and Joe Sykes.

Also signed were receiver Steven Harris, linebacker Robert McCune and fullback Manuel White.

McCune spent part of last season on the Redskins’ practice squad and White was on injured reserve after breaking his leg in the final preseason game last September.

The Redskins released 21 players on Saturday. Among those not placed on the practice squad were offensive tackle Kili Lefotu, a seventh-round choice in April, and two undrafted rookie free agents — tight end Buck Ortega and offensive lineman Jasper Harvey — who drew praise from the coaching staff throughout the preseason.

Linebacker Philippe Gardent will spend the season on the squad as part of the NFL’s International Development Practice Squad Program.
