No sooner do I plug a Lee Siegel essay than he gets tossed from his post at the New Republic magazine (no, I don’t mean to imply causation; I mean that I look like a moron).

Christopher Hitchens was rightly put off by Seigel, but even he called him “one of our finer critics.”

That seems to be the most generous conclusion on the whole episode: that Siegel was talented, yet a bit unhinged.

A pity, if you ask me. And it goes to show you that blogging is an occupational hazard for writers of a certain disposition.
