Right-hander Jason Simontacchi (strained right groin) will throw two innings in an extended spring training game this weekend and is on pace to pitch five innings by April 26. His return to the majors could come after that.

Reliever Luis Ayala (right elbow surgery) will throw 20 pitches in Viera, Fla., today but isn’t likely to be ready to return until at least mid-May Nook Logan (sprained left foot) and Cristian Guzman (strained left hamstring) are eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list April 18 but will need to play in a few minor league rehab games before returning to the lineup. Neither player made this road trip, and Guzman won’t participate in any baseball activities until next week.
