MARYLAND

Through May 28: “Remembrance and Recovery: Maryland’s Civil War Veterans,” an exhibit highlighting the state’s veterans and the organizations that supported them throughout their lives, with artifacts from the Daniel Toomey collection. The National Museum of Civil War Medicine, 48 E. Patrick St., Frederick, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. May 6: A Civil War era weapons demonstration will be held at Fort Washington Park, 13551 Fort Washington Road, Fort Washington. A rifled musket demonstration takes place at noon; artillery demonstrations at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Admission to the park is $5 per vehicle. Information: Park ranger Barbara Wadding at 301/763-4600.

May 10: The Montgomery County Civil War Round Table will hear Richard Lewis speak on “The Genius of Stonewall Jackson,” 7 p.m. at the Gaithersburg Holiday Inn, 2 Montgomery Village Ave. Dinner reservations required by May 7. VIRGINIA

Today: Manassas National Battlefield Park presents a four- to five-hour hike of First Manassas, beginning at noon at the Henry Hill Visitor Center. Information: 703/361-1339.

Today: The Friends of Fort Ward will hold a used Civil War book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site, 4301 W. Braddock Road, Alexandria. Proceeds will benefit the museum. Information: 703/838-4848.
