Sept. 11: The Civil War Round Table of the District of Columbia will hear professor Chandra Manning of Georgetown University speak on “What This Cruel War Was Over: Soldiers, Slavery, and the Civil War,” at Fort McNair, Fourth and P streets Southeast. Today: The 10th annual White’s Ford Potomac River Crossing near Dickerson commemorates the 145th anniversary of the Army of Northern Virginia’s movement starting the Maryland campaign of 1862. The event is from noon to 4 p.m. and includes a barbecue lunch for $7, a raffle and guest speaker. Hosted by Col. William Norris Camp 1398, Sons of Confederate Veterans. Sept. 9: A Civil War weapons demonstration takes place at Fort Washington Park, 13551 Fort Washington Road, Fort Washington, with a rifled musket demonstration at noon and artillery demonstrations at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Park admission is $5 per vehicle.
