North Bethesda may get a bit hazy tonight when the Velvet Fog’s specter descends on the Music Center at Strathmore (5301 Tuckerman Lane). No, Mel Torme isn’t back from the grave. But his son Steve, also a master of standards, is in town for a special Valentine’s Day performance titled “Torme Sings Torme: A Big Band Tribute to the Life and Music of Mel Torme.” The younger Mr. Torme and his 10-piece band will reprise tunes his father made famous both as an artist (“Mountain Greenery”) and as a songwriter (the holiday classic “The Christmas Song,” recorded by Nat “King” Cole). Family photos and rare video footage will add a nostalgic visual component. Tickets are $18 to $50. Call 301/581-5100 or 301/581-5253.
