Independents unite

The ninth annual Washington, DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) begins today. Nearly 150 movies — most categorized into themes ranging from Latin flicks to green-friendly films — will be screened during the 11-day event. Festival offerings also include Q&A; sessions, panel discussions, professional seminars and performances by local bands. Celebrated producer John Daly (“Platoon,” “The Terminator”) will be honored with a lifetime achievement award during tonight’s opening ceremony at 7. All events take place at the University of the District of Columbia (4200 Connecticut Ave. NW) unless otherwise noted. The full festival schedule and ticket prices are available online at www.dciff.org or by calling 202/537-9493.
