While many “estate homes” are simply spacious residences built on a homesite of an acre or more, a true estate home rests on 2.32 acres on Springvale Road in Great Falls.

Not only does this custom home sit back from the main road for privacy, but the grounds include a tennis court, a swimming pool, a hot tub and wide views of a pond and meadows.

On the market for $1,995,000, this home includes extensive landscaping with trees and perennials in addition to a brick front porch, a multilevel deck, sun decks around the swimming pool, outdoor lighting in both the front and the back of the home and a fenced dog pen.

The driveway, which leads to a side-entry three-car garage, has space for additional cars to park when entertaining.

Built in 1987, this home has almost 5,400 finished square feet on three levels, with extensive custom touches that add warmth.

Guests are welcomed in the two-story foyer, which has a curving, carpeted staircase, an upper-level window, a chandelier with a ceiling medallion and marble flooring. Nearby are a coat closet and a formal powder room with marble flooring.

Adjacent to the foyer are a formal dining room and a library. Double doors lead into the library and include etched glass inserts. This room has an oak beamed ceiling, oak shelves and cabinets, a built-in desk and oversized windows. Recessed lighting and detailed crown moldings are found in this room, along with most of the house.

The formal dining room includes hardwood flooring, triple floor-to-ceiling windows facing the front grounds, a chandelier with a ceiling medallion, and chair-rail and crown moldings, as well as shadow-box wainscoting.

Walls of windows extend across the back of the house, framing views of the pond and meadow. Glass doors open onto the multilevel deck that rests against the rear wall of the house and shares the sweeping view.

The formal living room, with 12-foot ceilings, has tall windows with transoms and a beamed ceiling. At one end is a gas fireplace with a marble surround and a paneled mantel. This room also has new carpeting and a ceiling fan.

Next to the kitchen is the sunroom, which has a vaulted wood ceiling and a wall of windows, including sliding glass doors to the deck and four transoms.

This room, currently used as a breakfast room, has ceramic tile flooring, a ceiling fan, a wet bar with display shelves and cabinets and a spiral staircase leading to the upstairs loft. The kitchen includes a serving counter open to the sunroom, which makes dining and entertaining in this area easier.

Hinged doors link the sunroom and the adjacent family room, allowing the doors to be completely closed or open or partially open. The cozy family room includes a wood-burning fireplace with a gas jet for easy conversion to gas, if desired.

This fireplace, set into a brick wall with a raised brick hearth, is framed by a wood archway. Matching wood trim frames the picture window and trims the ceiling. Adjacent to the fireplace is a cabinet that functions as an entertainment center and bar. This room also has a glass door to the rear yard and an entrance to the kitchen.

The centrally located kitchen features tile counters and a tile center island with a breakfast bar, with a wood rack above for hanging pots. A built-in roll-top desk adds charm to the room, which has cherry cabinets and display shelves, pantry cabinets, hardwood flooring and a gas Jenn-Air cooktop set into an arched opening with built-in spice racks on either side.

The upgraded appliances include a cherry-paneled Sub-Zero refrigerator, a double wall oven, a second cooktop on the center island, a dishwasher, a trash compactor and a microwave.

A laundry room with a Miele washer and dryer, a built-in ironing board, cherry cabinets and a window is next to the kitchen. This room also has access to the garage.

On the opposite side of the main level is the master suite, reached through a private foyer off the main foyer. In this private foyer are a linen closet and a walk-in storage closet. The bedroom features a dramatic tray ceiling, a gas fireplace in the corner sitting area, walls of windows and a sliding glass door to a private deck with a view of the pond.

The master bath includes a double walk-in closet and a cathedral ceiling, with a picture window above the whirlpool tub and a Palladian window above the dual-sink vanity. This bathroom also has a ceiling fan, a separate shower with a seat and two shower heads and a pocket door leading into the bedroom.

The curving staircase that links the foyer with the upper level leads into a large loft area that is also accessible from the sunroom on the main level. The carpeted loft has crown moldings and a cedar-lined walk-in closet. The loft can function as a study or reading nook or as a play area for children.

Just off the loft are three bedrooms. The second bedroom has a private full bath, large windows facing the front garden and a walk-in closet. The third and fourth bedrooms each have a walk-in closet and a vanity with a sink. These bedrooms share a connecting full bath with a skylight.

The lower level has several large unfinished storage rooms and abundant finished space. The recreation room has a brick fireplace with a raised hearth, a sliding glass door to the patio and swimming pool, and a walk-in storage closet. This room also has a full-size bar or kitchenette with a refrigerator, cabinets, counter space and a sink.

Nearby is a second recreation room or sitting area, with glass doors to the back yard and a view of the pond. The entire lower level has recessed lighting. Double doors open from the recreation room to a den or exercise room with a ceiling fan and a double-door closet. Adjacent to the den are a full bath and a bedroom with a ceiling fan and a walk-in closet.

This home provides ample space for family living and entertaining in all seasons, allowing friends and family to gather by a fireplace in the winter months, on the tennis court in the spring and fall, or by the swimming pool in the summer.
