How did you get started in real estate? I took an early retirement offer from Lucent Technologies, left Potomac, Md., and moved to Delaware to live the good life near the beach. After a year and a half of jogging, golfing, going to the gym, reading books, kayaking and walking on the beach, I found that I had time on my hands and missed customer interaction. I discovered that a resort community called the Peninsula on the Indian River Bay would be built in Millsboro, Del., and began contacting them about a sales position. I began pursuing a position about six months before they even had an office opened in Delaware. I was one of the first salespeople hired.

How long with the current company? Since 2004

License: Delaware real estate sales

Associations: National Association of Realtors, Delaware Association of Realtors, Sussex County Association of Realtors

Awards: National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) salesperson of the year, 2006; NAHB Region 8 salesperson of the year, 2006; Home Builders Association of Delaware Regal Award

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Being awarded the NAHB salesperson of the year

Area of specialty: The Peninsula in Millsboro, Del.

Highest-priced home sold: $2,000,000

Most memorable house: There have been too many to select one.

Worst experience: My worst experience was purchasing my own town home in Potomac. Our first night in the home we encountered a broken pipe in our finished downstairs recreation room that was shooting water into the room, and that same night we had a sewer backup. We had a home inspection prior to settlement, but these were things that no one could have foreseen. It was a very sad introduction to our new home, but everything got fixed and the stress went away.

Age: 63

Family: Wife, Diane; daughter, Erin

Pets: A cat, Cosmo, left behind when Erin left for college

Education: Bachelor of business administration in marketing, University of Notre Dame, 1965.

Outside interests: Tennis, running, biking; reading nonfiction; the stock market

Last book read: “More Than You Know,” by Michael J. Mauboussin

Last movie seen: “The Good Shepherd”

What kind of car do you drive? Honda Accord

What is your personal dream house? I am living in my personal dream home. Diane and I had a brand new custom home built in Lewes, Del., two years ago. There is a pond in front of the home and woods to the rear. Everything we wanted in a home — upscale bath, granite counters, hardwood floors, sunroom, deck, open great room, large front porch — we had built into this home, along with geothermal heat and a tankless water heater. We are within walking and biking distance to the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, and we are blessed with great neighbors.
