Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas, fresh off being named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December, opened the new year by being named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the third time in the last four weeks.

“This was an exciting week for our team,” Arenas said. “We had the big win against Milwaukee and came from behind against the Clippers at home for two important wins. My teammates had a great week, especially Caron [Butler] and Antawn [Jamison], so I will certainly share this award with them.”

In leading the Wizards to a 2-1 record, Arenas averaged 33.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 2.7 steals. The highlight of the week came when he drilled a 32-footer with time running out to give the Wizards a 108-105 win over the Bucks on Wednesday.

Arenas has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week seven times in his career.
