AREA POWER RANKINGS

ALEX OVECHKIN

Sidney Crosby signed for $43.5 million, which probably will be the starting point for the Ovechkin camp”s future talks with the Caps. Pay up, Ted.

DMITRI YOUNG

The Nationals’ best hitter is likely to be traded before July 31. It”s hard to believe some AL team in need of bench help or a spare DH wouldn”t be enamored with him.

FREDDY ADU

Adu”s brilliant play for the Americans in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup this month again has brought up the obvious: D.C. United never should have traded him.

AL SAUNDERS

Our fourth candidate to be the next Redskins coach should Joe Gibbs choose Charlotte over Ashburn after this year. He”s our pick as the top in-house candidate.

TOM Thibodeau

He lasted barely a week as the Wizards’ defensive expert, enough time to watch last year’s video and discover even he can’t help Gilbert play D.

TWT FIVE ” REASONS TO ELIMINATE THE HOME RUN DERBY

1. Chris Berman: The veteran talking head has become convinced people are watching him, not the event.

2. It’s not exciting: Less than an hour into the event, I had turned it to WWE “Monday Night Raw.”

3. It takes too long: Anybody who TiVo’ed/DVR’ed “The Bronx Is Burning” to start at 10 p.m. was ticked.

4. None of the stars compete: I couldn’t pick Alex Rios out of a lineup if given four chances. Same for Matt Holliday.

5. Joe Morgan: An arrogant ex-player who often talks down to his viewers, reminding them they never played the game.

TV BEST BET

Baseball starts its second half following a three-day break when the Chicago White Sox play at Baltimore (7 p.m., MASN).

HE SAID WHAT?

“I don”t want anybody to think [David] Beckham will save soccer in America; it doesn”t need to be saved. Soccer is doing just fine.” — MLS commissioner Don Garber
