Why did they insist on playing this game? Seriously, it was a mess all afternoon at RFK. The forecast called for rain and wind all day, and nothing changed along the way.

It’s understandable that thousands of fans (including a bunch of Little Leaguers) showed up expecting a game, and it would have been a shame to turn them away and send them home. But how much fun did those kids have peering out of their ponchos through the driving rain and wind?

And how dangerous were the conditions for the players, who clearly looked tentative in the field as they tracked down fly balls and tried to haul in grounders? Yes, they got the game in as planned. But they probably shouldn’t have pushed it.
