Won’t stick around the last day of the ACC tournament, and it would be a bit surprising if there is one more stunner in store for the folks at St. Pete Times Forum.

Sidney Lowe and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, er, N.C. State looked a little worn down in the second half of yesterday’s semifinal against Virginia Tech. That will prove to be an unpardonable sin against top-seeded North Carolina, whose 12-man rotation will tear the tiring Wolfpack asunder in the final.

Of course, that was the prevailing wisdom the last three days, and look where N.C. State is. It was clear Lowe had done a heck of a job just squeezing a .500 record out of the Wolfpack in the regular season, but State has probably enjoyed the best run out of anyone in a conference tournament this season (apologies to VMI and Arkansas). Another win and the ‘Pack will have Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton again scratching his head about the moving target that is an NCAA at-large berth.

Check back in later for a final bracket projection, coming up around 3 or so. Let’s face it. Those last-second conference finals don’t mean all that much. Is Kansas not a No. 1 without a victory over Texas? Does Wisconsin leapfrog Ohio State with a win in the Big Ten tourney? Probably not.

There’s another treat for later in the day for the real junkies out there. Hint: These guys will be representing, as is their wont.
