SEEN AND HEARD

Marlins 3, Nationals 1

VIERA, Fla. — John Patterson made his second start yesterday, but it wasn’t enough for Washington to win back-to-back games for the first time this spring.

Patterson, who has been named the team’s Opening Day starter, allowed three runs on three hits in three innings. He walked one and struck out four.

All of his runs came in the third inning. After he walked Alejandro de Aza to open the inning, De Aza stole second and scored on Hanley Ramirez’s ground-rule double to right field. Two batters later, Florida’s Mike Jacobs cleared the bases with his second home run of the spring to make it 3-1.

Felipe Lopez scored the Nationals’ only run, leading off the first inning with a single to right and coming home on a double by Ryan Zimmerman.
