SEEN AND HEARD

Nationals 2, Orioles 2 (ss); Marlins 1, Nationals 0 (ss)

VIERA, Fla. — Washington ace John Patterson pitched well in his final start of the spring, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits in 62/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Patterson managed to throw 91 pitches in his final tuneup for Opening Day on Monday at RFK Stadium against the Florida Marlins. The only regular in the Orioles’ lineup was Nick Markakis, who played center field.

Each team scored its second run in the seventh inning, and the game was ruled a tie after nine. After former Nationals outfielder Matt Cepicky homered off Patterson to put the Orioles ahead 2-1, Ryan Church scored on a passed ball by Baltimore backup catcher Eli Whiteside.

Nationals backup catcher Jesus Flores hit his second Grapefruit League homer in the fifth. …

Meanwhile, in the Nationals’ other split-squad game in Jupiter, Fla., starter Joel Hanrahan, who will pitch for Class AAA Columbus, took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He allowed one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts in 41/3.
