Don’t be surprised if there’s a different look in the batter’s box for this afternoon’s game.

Nine Nationals players, including Ryan Church, Austin Kearns and Ryan Zimmerman, are expected to use pink bats as part of baseball’s effort to promote breast cancer awareness on Mother’s Day.

The bats were seen both in the clubhouse and the dugout before last night’s game and will be difficult to miss this afternoon. In addition to the bats, all players, coaches and umpires will wear pink wristbands and pink ribbon decals on their uniforms.

“We’re better than 2.5, 2.7 runs a game. It had to come at some point.”

— Nationals manager Manny Acta on Friday’s 6-0 victory, the team’s largest output since April 22
