The NBA announced Wednesday that it will open a new office in London this summer as part of efforts to boost interest in the league in Europe and get ready for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

League commissioner David Stern made the announcement alongside London Mayor Ken Livingstone in New York, as part of a meeting focused on the NBA’s support of basketball in Britain.

London recently opened a basketball-style arena and is scheduled to host a preseason exhibition game between the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 10. Leading up to that game, the NBA will stage training camps throughout Europe as part of the 2007 NBA Europe Live tour presented by EA Sports.
