How did you get started in real estate?

I listed my first place, a condo in the Valley Vista building, with the old Shannon & Luchs company. The office manager heard that I was between jobs, and she recruited me during that transaction.

How long have you been with the current company? Since February

Licenses: Real estate broker in District of Columbia and Texas; real estate sales in Maryland and Virginia

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: My book, “The Irreverent Guide to Real Estate: Buying, Selling and Making Money,” was published. I’ve used lots of examples from real estate transactions I’ve seen. A lot of them are very funny.

Highest-priced home sold: $2,200,000

Most memorable house: It was a very unusual stone house in the District. I learned that the original owner back in the 1920s sent his architect to Tuscany to re-create an old place where his family had spent a memorable vacation. The architect seems to have pulled it off, and it sits on a corner lot on Argyle Terrace and it is certainly unique, at least to this continent.

Worst experience: Two days before settlement, a client called me to say, “You have to get me out of this. My psychic told me not to do it.” The listing agent was one of my more formidable colleagues, and my fears that she would eat me for lunch were unfounded. Still, it was an extremely awkward week. Lucky for the seller, another buyer snapped it up within hours. The buyer lost a chunk of his earnest money deposit, however.

Family: Single

Pets: Willie, my 8-month old Labradoodle; and two cats.

Education: Attended Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore; studied flute with Britten Johnson, Julius Baker and Jean-Pierre Rampal; bachelor of arts in political science and flute, Hunter College in New York.

Community service: Crestwood Neighborhood League, soon-to-be editor of its monthly newsletter.

Last book read: “Peace Like a River,” by Leif Enger

Last movie seen: “The Departed”

What kind of car do you drive? Lexus sedan

What is your personal dream house? For the past couple of years, I’ve been dreaming about a place I saw at the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown. It’s big, but not too big, has lots of glass facing south toward the Potomac, and it has a large terrace. To make it a totally dream condo, I’d tear down the Whitehurst Freeway and invent a truly silent jet plane. One roars by every few minutes, although the soundproofing is totally amazing.
