NEW YORK METS AT WASHINGTON NATIONALS

Where:RFK Stadium

Today: 7:05 p.m., RHP Brian Lawrence (1-2, 6.31) vs. RHP Tim Redding (3-5, 3.42).

Tomorrow: 7:05 p.m., RHP John Maine (14-9, 3.72) vs. RHP Joel Hanrahan (4-3, 5.83).

Wednesday: 7:05 p.m., RHP Mike Pelfrey (2-7, 5.23) vs. LHP Matt Chico (5-8, 4.61).

Series breakdown: Though the Mets have been atop the NL East for some time now and appear all but certain to lock up the division title, they still have some cause for concern. New York’s pitching staff, in particular, is banged up, with Orlando Hernandez the latest to go down. “El Duque” was supposed to start tonight’s series opener, but he was scratched because of a sore right foot. The man taking his place? Lawrence, whom Nationals fans may or may not remember as the player acquired for Vinny Castilla who blew out his shoulder before throwing a pitch.
