What’s so funny ‘bout “Peace, Love and Understanding”? Answer: That Englishman Nick Lowe has penned and produced a treasure trove of pop, proto-punk and country-tinged tunes over the years, but none has brought him more success than this one, made famous by Elvis Costello before Mr. Lowe’s cover appeared on the soundtrack for “The Bodyguard” and earned him a cool million. This evening, the legendary musician plays the Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria) with Ron Sexsmith at 7:30. 703/549-7500. www.birchmere.com.
