TOP TO BOTTOM

NFL writer David Elfin ranks the teams. (Last week’s rankings in parentheses)

1. Patriots (1) — So much for being affected by Spygate.

2. Colts (2) — Pumped for Houston after upset there in December.

3. Cowboys (8) — Will be NFC favorite with victory at Chicago.

4. Steelers (10) — 49ers will provide better test than Browns, Bills.

5. Chargers (3) — Only Norv could find a way to shut down L.T.

6. Ravens (6) — Any win with Boller at quarterback is a plus.

7. Bears (7) — Will have to beat Dallas with defense and Hester.

8. Broncos (9) Elam has made as many FGs (six) as anyone else has attempted.

9. Packers (12) — Favre just three shy of Marino’s all-time TD mark.

10. Texans (21) — Rallied from 14-0 deficit to crush Carolina. Wow.

11. Redskins (19) — Good things happen when Gibbs starts 2-0.

12. 49ers (16) — Already 2-0 in NFC West despite horrid offense.

13. Seahawks (4) — Shaky defense not ready for visit by Bengals.

14. Bengals (5) — College teams don’t give up 51 to the Browns.

15. Titans (18) — Vince Young visits Reggie Bush on Monday night.

16. Cardinals (20) — Whisenhunt won’t let them blow games like they did for Denny.

17. Panthers (11) — Falcons are cure for embarrassment vs. Texans.

18. Eagles (13) — There’s no pop in the offense other than Westbrook.

19. Buccaneers (29) — Will Galloway ever get old?

20. Lions (27) — Hey, it might be the only time they crack the top 20.

21. Saints (14) — Was 2006 a total fluke, or will they snap out of it?

22. Giants (15) — The defense, or lack of it, isn’t Eli’s fault.

23. Vikings (22) — Could be a lost year with raw Jackson at QB.

24. Raiders (30) — Did officials job Davis and help Shanahan?

25. Browns (31) — Who knew Frye was keeping them from scoring 51?

26. Bills (17) — Outclassed by Steelers. It could get ugly in Foxboro.

27. Jaguars (24) — A team doesn’t move up by rallying to beat Falcons.

28. Jets (23) — Pennington wouldn’t have made difference vs. Ravens.

29. Dolphins (25) — If they can’t play defense, Cam and Co. are in big trouble.

30. Rams (26) — Bulger threw for 368 with no picks and still lost at home.

31. Chiefs (28) — They’re toast until L.J. warms up.

32. Falcons (32) — Coach Petrino, you are allowed to score in the NFL.
