Admit it: You saw Eminem in “8 Mile” and were intrigued by those intense freestyle battle scenes, right? Well, cyphers — or circles in which rappers pass the rhyme or mike — aren’t just made-for-movie phenomena, and don’t always take place in dark back alleys or dangerous clubs. In fact, there’s a freestyle battle at DC9 (1940 Ninth St. NW) this evening at 9. Hosting the event are some of D.C.’s finest and hardest working lyricists: the hip-hop duo Rosetta Stoned and Flex Matthews. Admission is $5. 202/483-5000. www.dcnine.com.
