Everything is different for a 4:15 p.m. game. The traffic on the Beltway is thicker — 3½ hours before kickoff. The parking lots are packed earlier — we squeezed into a spot at 1:20 hoping our doors won’t be dented too seriously. And the boozing starts especially early — the lots opened up at 11 a.m. The atmosphere was far different than for the Week 1 Miami game, which had all the buzz of an Arena League preseason game.

•The best sign on a car was “We Do Waterless Grass.” We’re guessing that’s short for “We Do AstroTurf.”

•Once in the stadium, our first look at the throwback Redskins trousers was with right guard Jason Fabini. Yikes, what was Vince Lombardi thinking when he switched to these uniforms in 1969? They’re vomit yellow. Kicker Shaun Suisham is the first player on the field in full uniform. The jerseys look OK.

•At 2:25 p.m., Jason Campbell starts his pregame throwing routine, which lasts 20 minutes and consists of three- and four-throw sets to receivers Antwaan Randle El, James Thrash and Reche Caldwell and tight end Chris Cooley.

•Sadly, the 2-0 start by the Redskins hasn’t gotten The Danny’s buddy, Tom Cruise, back on the bandwagon. He hasn’t been back since last year’s opener against Minnesota.

•Odd couple: Talking at midfield two hours before the game, Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell (217 pounds) and Giants quarterback Jared Lorenzen (285 pounds).

•Odd sight: A fan wearing a Herschel Walker No. 34 Giants jersey. Walker finished his career with Big Blue in 1995.
