‘ER’ admits Vance

Courtney B. Vance, Angela Bassett’s real-life spouse, has taken a recurring role on NBC’s “ER” for the medical drama’s 15th and final season, Zap2it.com reports. He’ll play the husband of Miss Bassett’s character, a new attending physician at County General.

Mr. Vance starred on NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” for five seasons, playing assistant District Attorney Ron Carver. On the big screen, he has appeared in “The Hunt for Red October,” “Panther”- which also featured Miss Bassett - “Cookie’s Fortune” and “Space Cowboys.”

Married 11 years, Mr. Vance and Miss Bassett met while pursuing graduate studies at the Yale School of Drama.

Bertinelli’s back

Valerie Bertinelli is plotting a return to TV sitcoms, this time playing a single mother of two.

The former “One Day at a Time” star has signed on to a still-untitled TBS pilot from Sony Pictures Television and writer-executive producer Dave Caplan, Daily Variety says.

Miss Bertinelli will play a woman who struggles to care for two children and a lumber business after her husband walks out on her.

The actress and one-time Jenny Craig spokeswoman was seen most recently in Lifetime’s original made-for-cable film “True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet.”
