Nationals report

Wednesday at Nationals Park

SEEN AND HEARD

Jim Bowden in a Manny Ramirez wig. This is what they had in mind when they came up with the “Seen and Heard at the ballpark” concept. Yes, the Nationals general manager stood behind the cage during batting practice Wednesday wearing long dreadlocks underneath a red Nationals cap, his tribute to the newest member of the opposing Dodgers. Was it a stunt to try to persuade the mercurial slugger (a pending free agent) to sign with Washington this winter?

“I am happy to see Manny,” Bowden said. “I respect him. In my career, [Barry] Bonds and Ramirez have been the two best of my time. … I think it’s an honor to get to watch them. I would pay to watch them hit.”

BY THE NUMBERS

4 Double plays Ryan Zimmerman started Tuesday night, making him only the third third baseman to do that in a game since 1990 after the Yankees’ Scott Brosius and Alex Rodriguez.
